Posted by bandi Thankfully this one has a 5 speed. Out of the 6 I've owned now (3 were parts cars), they've all been V6 manual.
I actually kinda want a 2M4 for a commuter.
no you don't.... if you did find a 2M4, swap in the 2.2L out of the 91+ Cavalier... it's smoother, more powerful, better on fuel, fits right in (was offered in the late A-body) and should bolt to the 5speed gearbox without fuss. They used to be everywhere... not so sure now, though.

The Cavaliers keep multiplying here. One of these lucky contestants will be the next hornet. The other will be a daily. Whoever has less rot gets promoted to racecar.
Speaking of....
The OG K9 car had a bit of a tumble during the Enduro. Everyone was okay, thankfully, and that was just a backup car at this point. This is why you don't cheap out on safety, kids.
In other news, the Saabaru is now off to a new owner. Our 05 Forester may be next on the chopping block, but we'll see if that actually happens.

So I think I'm done buying cars this year. I told myself that after the Fiero GT, and then a friend from the pub mentioned the Beetle his dad has owned since 1966 would be for sale. He's been telling me about the car for a couple of years now but said his dad would never part with it even though it was just sitting.
The car was purchased during a family camping vacation to the west coast when their microbus threw a rod. Ted had the dealership install a trailer hitch so he could get the tent trailer home (about 2800 miles with a 36 horsepower car). He kept it as a backup car until Bell Canada gave him a company car in the mid 70s, and stuck it in a barn. The barn started getting a little sketchy, so they pushed the car out a couple of years ago - thankfully, because the barn collapsed less than a week later. It's unfortunate that it sat outside but somehow it didn't rot out.
The car is a 1960 Canadian Standard with 17,000 miles. The "Standard" model was $200 cheaper than the deluxe so it had the older style 3 spoke wheel, had no fuel gauge, no dash trim, no chrome window trim, no arm rests, manual choke, seat adjustment is done by loosening a wingnut and sliding the seat back, no windshield washer, and a headliner that cover the ceiling but none of the pillars or rear window area. Ted added a fuel gauge, a tach and an oil pressure gauge, and '62-'67 taillights for better visibility (and glovebox door from a deluxe). The floors are perfect, the heater channels are perfect and I'm excited. Oh and unfortunately he installed Pinto seats, but at least the Beetle seat base frames are still intact.
Haven't actually seen the engine yet, the decklid lock is seized tight and I've been sick as hell. Also the stupid headlight eyelids need to go.

So back about a year and a half ago, Alex bought himself a new truck. A 2021 GMC Sierra to retire his 03 Yukon Denali as a tow vehicle. We don't pull anything big, just an open SureTrak with the dirt car. (We pull the enclosed trailer with the other car with Ryan's Ram 12 valve) He had been noticing a shudder, kept taking it to the dealer, they'd go "Nope, it's all good". He decided on a whim to take it to a different dealer, and whaddaya know, the torque converter was smoked. Covered under warranty (Truck had only just turned 17k), but they wouldn't be able to get it until after the new year.
After a drive up to my parents 4 hours north, we realized the shudder was even worse. Further research showed these trucks were also prone to balljoints just exploding somewhere around the 18-20k mark. Awesome. The LAST thing we need on a road trip or while towing a trailer is for this thing to start doing Lightning McQueen impressions. The decision was made to dump the truck ASAP.
Fast forward to last Wednesday when a "let's just go look at what they have" turned into trading the Sierra in and upgrading to a '17 Duramax 2500 that could probably tow our barn and already has a gooseneck hitch on it.

My brothers '19 Silverado 1500 has that 8-speed shudder developing... and the dealer is dicking him around... like he wasn't a fucking GM mechanic for 20 fucking years. Noooooooo... (eyeroll) So, after getting loud on the phone, they are going to (el oh el) change the trans fluid in it... 'see what that does'.

Verbatim that's what the second dealer did. It got worse. They had an appointment for him for the Monday after Thanksgiving, but called him that Friday and told him "Oh, parts are hella back-ordered. We changed the fluid, you'll be fine". [Narrator voice: "It was not fine"]. At least they did something, unlike the fossils at the first dealership that just kept going "Nah, that's normal", forgetting that he went to Vo-tech and college for mechanical work (specifically GM) and is ASE certified.
Best of luck to your brother, he's in the year range for the exact things we had wrong with ours.
Nismo, yeah, we've heard nothing but good about these. Friend of ours had a '16 Duramax that he only got rid of for a 2021 because his '16 got wrecked to the point of a total. The only complaint thus far is the headlights are a tad weedy, so they'll be getting an upgrade. Hopefully with the new truck, we can now ditch our dog of an enclosed trailer (it's a 91, and while it does the job, it doesn't do it well)and maybe cut down to one trailer for both cars.

After 5 great years and 157,000 trouble-free km's with my 2017 STi I decided to trade it in for something new. A nice practical family station wagon
Out with the old:
In with the new:
It's a 2020 with 35,000kms on it and every available option. Never owned a Mercedes before and I'm really hoping this thing turns out to be reliable. I'd just paid off the Subaru back in August and should have enjoyed some more time without a car payment, but where's the fun in that? Any of you experts have any suggestions of things I should watch out for with these?

I got my fingers crossed for him, Sam. It didn't help for Alex, an hour into a drive up north and he said he felt like he was on rumble strips.
terapr0, awesome wagon!
