Deal by Bill Kreutzmann, drummer for the Grateful Dead.

I'm curious what you think of Chris McCandless.

I think Chris is inspiring. And Carine still takes trips out to the bus on occasion. I have a lot of respect for both of them

I read a follow-up article by Krakauer recently that said that Chris and his sister were both abused by their parents, the dad in particular. I'll see if I can find a link and post it.

I have mixed feelings about him. On the one hand, he did something we all would have liked to do: leave our lives behind, and go off on an epic adventure. But at the same time, I feel he did a lot of really foolish things that ultimately led to his death, plus a lot that just left me scratching my head. Like, why burn all his money? I understand he wanted to break with his past, but why not donate it? And the whole getting rid of his map thing.

Still, it was a great book. I love everything Jon Krakauer has written. I just finished Where Men Win Glory, which is about the life and death of Pat Tillman. Another home run.

they were both abused, definitely. His dad had an entire second life too. I watched an interview with the parents on youtube, they are both delusional.

Jon makes a strong case by proving Chris was within a few miles of a safe area to cross the Teklanika river if only he had KEPT & used his maps. Chris didn't have to die but in his own words he became "trapped by the wild".

I'm interested in Pat Tillman I'll check that out.

I've also got a collection of books by Martin Luther King in my shopping cart on amazon, haven't purchased them yet.

Turns out it was Chris's sister Carine that wrote a book about the abuse they suffered at the hands of their parents. Here's an article about it:

Krakauer did write an article about some seeds Chris had foraged, then, after some further research, published an update:

"House of Mirth" by Edith Wharton. Beautifully written, but WOW, the blatant, unapologetic, matter-of-fact anti-Semitism is surprising. I guess there were no Jews in Ethan Frome.

Jeez, I didn't mean to kill this thread...

Just finished "Lincoln in the Bardo" by George Saunders. It was fantastic, the most original novel I have read in a long time.

Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand. I read a lot of books and this one, no matter where I was reading it (on the bus, in the cafe, on a plane) had people stopping me and wanting to talk about it. I really like the author's views on public education. I believe that public education will play a large role as before, but gradually private education and self-study will crowd out these areas. I have not studied this problem yet, it will be written from scratch, no publications have been made before. I just began to study this problem and immediately faced the problem of finding sources and literature, since the field of study is rather new. Friends, I wanted to ask you some advice on this. Found PapersOwl, click site - apa research paper writing service and want pay for college apa research paper. They are engaged in writing research papers for money. What do you think? Maybe you should contact?
