That's what i'm saying. The larger the group ... the larger the potential for someone to fuck it up.

not necessarily. There was around 25 people at one time in brickworks over the weekend, with no problems save the one asshat (it only takes one) that decided to sound an air horn.

25 people could go to hearn, if they're smart about it and plan. Announcing a date and time on a publicly viewable board is not smart.

Yes, I'm not sure if it was 25 people but we had a lot of people in the brickworks at the same time. We split off into a couple of groups to be more careful and we encountered no problems... other than the air horn sounding which was admittedly a dumb idea (although I don't remember anyone actually telling him it was).

Very good planning by those "in charge" so to speak.

In the end, good planning, and good people carrying out those plans always makes for a successful exploration. even if there are 25 or even 50 people... however you usually have to have one person who knows what the plan is, to every 4 or 5 people... that works with these UE meets, to keep them in check, and even when we were at the brickworks over the weekend, we had issues rounding up pat and a few of his friends because they strayed away from the groups (most likely to check the voltages at the power distribution boxes).

and it took us about 10 minutes to get everyone out.

which would of been far too long had there been a fire or security shown up.

when you have 1000 or so people there is no way to keep them in control. there have been many fires and deaths in abandoned buildings over the years as a result of partys and such... so pat saying that he will be able to control the crowd and such is.. quite frankly purely fictional.

however, that said, nothing we will say will stop them because they are stubborne. and since they do not seem to be interested in exploring, just interested in finding new places to party... i would say that they probably don't belong on this forum.

Actually, i told you to your face that I did NOT bring a multimeter because i thought it was the wrong crowd to be doing those tests.

Secondly i was with Av and the guy in the Yaris who drove me (sorry, i've forgotten your name) for the most part when we were in the building and i'm sure he'll agree to that. The group of friends I brought with me dispursed a bit over the time we were at the brickworks.

As for my absence from the group at time you can attribute that to the 240 pictures i took between the bricks and the recycling plant I didnt know i was required to hold your hand and tell you exactly where your going. Next time i'll wear a GPS locator and a walkie talkie so you can check in with me at your leisure....silly me, i should have known.

I got some Snide remarks from quite a few pretentious people while i was there and i reiterated EVERY single time that i was not there to scout party spots. i've bee to the bricks before so to "scout" an already scouted place is pointless. i was there specifically to take pictures and kill a saturday afternoon.

Again, i want to say that nobody on this board has the right to go into these buildings. If you trespass on private property it is against the law and you are a criminal. simply put. I have no right to see these buildings just as you do. Frankly if i want to have a massive pagan sacrifice at this location, massive orgy OR just snap a few pictures i dont see how it's any of your concern. these are condemned buildings that will be either destroyed or preserved by the city.

I thoroughly enjoyed saturday afternoon and the people that came were, for the most part, very nice. Although a select few of them need to step off thier high horses.

EDIT: i'm looking for picture hosting. if anyone can help me out PM me, thx

I have never heard of any other explorer who carrys around a airhorn to "test accoustics" at the spur of the moment inside abandoned buildings...

Indeed, we have no right to tell you what you can and can't do in these buildings. however if you come onto a forum which in general is against vandals, and tagging and teens looking for a place to get high, and moreso about the sole exploration and respect for the buildings and their past... then you should expect to get flamed. The question isn't about whos right and whos wrong.. the question is more like "why did you come to this board to talk about your rave?"

I am a fairly liberal guy and I really dont care what you do at brickworks... nor do I have any right to say anything either way, but bringing an airhorn along to test accoustics during a large group exploration of the place kind of took us by surprize and I know I probably wouldn't bring you along on any explorations after that incident. First impressions last a lifetime.

It's my understanding that this site is for people who love the aesthetics of abandoned buildings and sites. It is not my understanding that there's a prescribed, mandatory ideology to accompany this love.

In actuality, the site is open for public use, education and enjoyment. For commercial ventures that tend to leave the place in a mess, like raves and shit, you'd need a permit (Call 416 392-8188, City Of Toronto) and inquire if such an event is even allowed there.

How fucking stupid are you people.

Bringing a multimeter?

THERE IS NO POWER IN THE BRICK WORKS.

There are powerlines in the vicinity but those power the active buildings. Have fun trying to tap into those

It may not be, in your view, any of our concern, but it is indeed our perogatives whther or not to help you in your endeavors. If people here are against what you do, well that's just too bloody bad for you. Nobody here is required to give you info, help you with locations, or anything at all. The people that are on thise site are here because they love these buildings, and want to see them remain. It's against our own agendas to lead people that will destroy these places, to these places.

I can tell you that you're lucky you're there and not in my area though. For one, blowing a horn off while on an exploration with me would have gotten you a couple teeth loosened, and two if I found out you were responsible for a place getting trashed you'd wish you'd never ever considered the idea...

Whoa. whoa whoa whoa.

Am I the only one that thought a face-to-face meeting would have loosened some of the tensions among us here? What the heck is going on?

Jester is threatening a guy from the other side of the country! Now, I don't know if this is standard tabinistrator faire, but c'mon folks.

Pat, man, you're a good guy, and I enjoyed talking to you at the meet, but it's clear that some of your other hobbies are not condoned by the powers that be around here.
I don't think anyone is going to be able convince you that you're doing anything worse than what we all profess to doing on a regular basis. And you may be right in that from a legal standpoint. I'm not trying to say that you are wrong, and I'm not saying that you're right in what you like to do either. But likewise, you're not going to convince them that your activities are harmless, as most of the upper echelon around here doesn't see things the way you do.

I'd like to see you stay around the forums and come out to some other meets, but I think that you should probably keep the interests frowned upon by the majority here under wraps.

Oh cry me a freaking river...

Anybody that wants to be a fucktard like he has (blowing a fucking airhorn during an exploration ? If you're alone, do whatever you want, if you're with other people you bloody well show some respect in your actions because they will effect others besides yourself) then he sure as hell deserves to get whatever come his way.

Oh poor little tekno boy is the victim here.

Fuck that.

I don't owe him anything, I certainly don't owe him an ounce of respect just because he managed to sign up on the forum, and I sure as hell don't care if it bothers him or you.

Whoa, relax. Why the hell are you flipping out on me? I didn't take any sides here. I just happen to think that you threatening physical violence from the other side of the country particularly humorous is all.

All I basically did was tell pat that people are clearly flipping out (as further evidenced by your absolutely /scathing/ retort) over his ideas so he should either take a hike or stop talking about shit that's gonna stir the pot.

If you want to take this as a chance to stand on a soap box and tell the world how you'd treat an air-horn blower if he was in your exploring entourage, be my goddamn guest, but don't paint me like some fucking bleeding heart pansy over here.

a few questions about the trash left in the brickworks. since there is a picture in the DB which i don't have access too, i'll have to rely on all of you to be straight with me.

first off...

any clue as to what soundsystem left the trash?

the freetek website isn't one group of people. it is, really, a portal of communication for people who are all involved in the same activity, but there are several different soundsystems throwing these parties.

thirdly... would anyone be willing to e-mail me a copy of the image? mintiejellie at hotmail dot com for anyone able to oblige.

i'd be more than happy to see if we can get to the bottom of this. i don't appreciate it when trash gets left behind at parties, especially when i think of the times i've spent after parties at cherry beach helping a soundsystem with clean up duties...

thank you in advance.

i was just there last week on a straight exploration trip. took a friend of mine whos never seen the place. hes interested in exploration as well, he's done a few drains but never any buildings (we are both fairly novice actually, lol). that was my 3rd time poking around that place.

i'll try to come out to one of these meet-ups sometime.

We had some asshats who wanted to throw rocks at windows (large paned ones at that), drink, smoke pot, carry on like there was no tomorrow - in an abandoned hospital smack dab in the middle of town. It took us over an hour to get there and 20 minutes for us to sneak in (there was 5 of us). Thankfully, we took separate vehicles down (I drove alone), so when I first caught their intentions, I left them.

Next day I get a call from the police station. They got busted.

Point? You are responsible for your actions. If you want to publically write in a publically viewable forum about your illegal intentions, by all means, go right on ahead and do so. Don't expect everyone to bow down to your every need and show you the way in, where the breaker boxes are, and so forth, because frankly, we despise people that want hand-me-outs.

Make enemies on this board? Don't expect to have them treat you to any locations or show you any places.

And always respect those who bring you along to a location. Bringing an air horn is NOT an approvable method. Blaring it off is NOT an acceptable method, either. Those who you do not respect can very well turn around and give you a fucking swift kick in the balls (which you deserved from what I inferred from the trip reports) or can very well leave you there, alone, to deal with the cops that show up "unexpectedly."

I don't tolerate this shit with people I explore with; they respect a location as much as I do and see the intrinsic value that I see in it, the historical significance and the architectural value. All you see if another place for people to get high, get drunk, dance to music and cause havoc (even you admitted you can't control every guest, so there is a large hole there). You already said you defy property laws by hosting events wherever you see fit. With that, how about we deny you rights to go along with us at these locations?

(end rant)

Oh my god! Dance to music?!?!?!

Who are you, Giuliani?

Why does music have to be associated with recklessness? Sorry to beat this into the ground, but I put on a fucking show there that was completely free of all recklessness and was generally enjoyable for the 200 or so in attendance. The show wasn't busted and access to building remained as it was before.

I don't know why most of you are so against responsibly organized events here and elsewhere. At least these kinds of events, when well thought out and executed, breathe new life into these decaying institutions. Taking pictures kind of does that, but not to the extent that it should be done. I just can't believe how selfish and prudish this sentiment is. And why must you react with such hostility? As far as I can tell, these boards are for those who enjoy abandoned spaces--there's no accompanying ideology that is mandatory to all who share this interest.

Finally, I would never want to go to any location with someone as drowned in paltry self-righteousness as yourself. I wouldn't want to get yelled at for "acting out of turn".
