| | | Posted by KublaKhan I think there should be a special private board for members who fuck up so gloriously that they get arrested, boot-fucked, etc. so that we can post their mugshots. And I'm looking in the direction of the morons who don't heed sound advice from members who know a fuck of a lot more.

I would double my donation to Av's slush fund UER next year just to help make that become a reality!

| | | You know I've got to say I don't live in PA and have never been to PH, but from what I've read it sounds like they're more bored teen-agers and general random citizens wondering around PH then there are at my local shopping mall, and it's pretty busy. What fun is that? [last edit 12/12/2007 11:37 PM by CaptOrbit - edited 1 times]
The personal responsibility train left the station years ago, and you gave it the finger as you watched it leave. |

| | | Posted by Dine-In-Dash Scrap copper goes for about 3 bucks a pound, the speakman building in Wilmington DE. burned to the ground last year because a scavenger was cutting pipes with a torch and caught the place on fire. Seeing how PH has been abandoned for so long I am surprized there is any copper left.
|
just fyi. Torches do not cut copper. If they were burning, they were grabbing the steel(beams, rail, stringers) because the copper was probably gone already. I've seen a few examples where the scrappers have removed load bearing structural components. G

It is a busy place. Locals walk, and ride horses around the perimeter during the day. Some of the former nurses, and workers live nearby and drive/walk through too. There are two working farms on the property, a fresh water treatment and a sewage treatment plants that are used by both the VA and the borough. Va residents, war vets, are free to go where they please, and they do. Fucking with them is a federal offense, and the VA commandant is very protective of her patients. Cameras are not tolerated on the VA grounds nor are unregistered visitors. They patrol as best they can. A federal trespass charge isn't a couple hundred dollars, and federal court appearances aren't cheap or easy like state or local courts as you probably know. Both local and state police patrol there too, and as some know, the state uses it to train k-9s and handlers to hunt for victims and bad guys. A National Guard unit is housed there as well, it is active and they train in the woods when not overseas. That is federal property and any crimes committed there are federal offenses. Going near there isn't a clever idea. There are active VA buildings within 100 yards of PH, in fact at one time all of these buildings were part of the PH campus. The National Guard used buildings in the abandoned section as recently as 8 years ago until vandals and copper thieves destroyed the heating and alarm infrastructures there. Over a $250 Grand worth of damage was done in a 3 year period, which is what closed that part of the campus for good until it can be sold. If you want CO, I have contact info.

| | | You're in error. It's not Federal Property, it's State Property. And if you want to be specific it falls under the PA Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) which the Veterans Homes and the National Guard are part of in PA.......... Nothing "federal" about it. It's a State DMVA Veterans Home not Federal VA and the National Guard is a State entity. -abpa PS - In fact, when the state closed the Pennhurst facility it became the third Veterans Home in the State under the PA Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. There are now many more State Veterans Homes in PA, but Pennhurst and Hollidaysburg State Hospital, were the only mental health facilities made into State Veterans Homes. The property is indeed state, but the vets have state as well as federal protection, and rightfully so. It houses vets from all states. The National Guard is part of the US Army regardless if they are housed on state property. DOD site.
