just fyi. Torches do not cut copper. If they were burning, they were grabbing the steel(beams, rail, stringers) because the copper was probably gone already. I've seen a few examples where the scrappers have removed load bearing structural components.

G

Yes but you can melt copper allowing you to "cut" the pipes out of areas where you might not necessarily be able to a saw into or where it would be two time consuming to cut through.

It is a busy place. Locals walk, and ride horses around the perimeter during the day.
Some of the former nurses, and workers live nearby and drive/walk through too.
There are two working farms on the property, a fresh water treatment and a sewage treatment plants that are used by both the VA and the borough.

Va residents, war vets, are free to go where they please, and they do. Fucking with them is a federal offense, and the VA commandant is very protective of her patients. Cameras are not tolerated on the VA grounds nor are unregistered visitors. They patrol as best they can. A federal trespass charge isn't a couple hundred dollars, and federal court appearances aren't cheap or easy like state or local courts as you probably know.

Both local and state police patrol there too, and as some know, the state uses it to train k-9s and handlers to hunt for victims and bad guys.
A National Guard unit is housed there as well, it is active and they train in the woods when not overseas. That is federal property and any crimes committed there are federal offenses. Going near there isn't a clever idea.
There are active VA buildings within 100 yards of PH, in fact at one time all of these buildings were part of the PH campus.

The National Guard used buildings in the abandoned section as recently as 8 years ago until vandals and copper thieves destroyed the heating and alarm infrastructures there. Over a $250 Grand worth of damage was done in a 3 year period, which is what closed that part of the campus for good until it can be sold.

If you want CO, I have contact info.

You're so lame. Shut the fuck up already. I'm so sick of having to skip past your dumbass quotes.

In the space of a smile I found sleep.

You know I've got to say I don't live in PA and have never been to PH, but from what I've read it sounds like they're more bored teen-agers and general random citizens wondering around PH then there are at my local shopping mall, and it's pretty busy. What fun is that?

The looters have come in with rented pipe cutters and tried to cart off the heating system wholesale. They got ambushed in a stake out by State police and were convicted of doing $200G worth of damage to state property.
That's what closed all of it.

There's been numerous fires started there from kids trying to stay warm, or just for fun.
Those morons destroyed or heavily damaged some of the coolest parts of the complex.
Because fires put the fire fighters, citizens, and other active buildings on the campus at risk, cops try to find people that go there at night.

A bank of three smart cameras at key spots on active buildings could spot most that are there at night, and would pay for themselves in a year or two.
They could also help increase the security for the vets, and help tag people who violate the Vets civil rights.

Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in.

If the pipe was void of liquid, perhaps. Any liquid in it at all, good luck.
I'll go out on a limb here and say you've never spent time with a torch. Trying to torch cut non-ferrous metal is an exercise in futility. For all the effort to carry one around, when a compact tubing cutter will do the job with less noise and less effort and faster just doesnt make any sense.
and thats my $.02

First off, I'm not a guy and second off, that has been hashed over a long time ago on this very board when I was a newbie like you...you wont see my name in any other place, unlike some. I have not contributed in any way to the downfall of this place, and anyone who knows and has explored with me can tell you that. My pics speak for themselves, just like the ones i posted. Thank you.

HHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!
You're jsut bent because we would probably all kick your ass.
Btw, that picture with the scribbled faces is not me or anyone I know. It was a picture I made to make fun of a group of people. You could probably figure that out by where they were located on my photobucket.

Props to you though, cunt.

Why the need to start un-necessary drama? What's the need for posting stuff like this? It's not like it will erase away all the Pennhurst graffiti. What's done is done.....

And wait a minute, if this isn't the cat calling the kettle black.

I think your name was one of the first I ever saw plastered in multiple places on the wall in the Admin of Pennhurst.

Not to mention in various places at Byberry and Lakeville?

Why must some of these people feel the need to put themselves up on a pedestal.....

Ah yes. Especially when they're made from the safety and anonymity of one's own computer and not face to face.

And to the people who trash, burn and loot sites, thanks a lot!

Makes explorers look like idiots and end up justifying the demolition of really cool places.

One place that sticks out in my mind is the Whitby Psychiatric Hospital. It sickens me to see how the place went to hell because of assholes. I remember the place when it was active and the buildings were beautiful even though the place could get depressing.

Maybe the ones who like to tag and otherwise destroy places should close their own accounts and stop wasting bandwidth with their pathetic stupidity.

Here is a thought.

Why not, instead of pointing fingers and fighting; you guys have real dialogue about how Pennhurst got in the state it is in and in turn try to share ideas about how to keep this from happening to other sites?

There is a lot we could learn from things like this.

But of course, we would rather fight over the net while these places burn to the ground.

Makes total sence to me
