I hate the Toyota radio here that they play where they have an "owner" talk about he likes getting his Corolla serviced at the dealer because "they have factory trained technicians and original Toyota parts"

i always find "factory trained" a misnomer, anyone who has ever worked in an auto assembly plant can tell you there is NO skill involved in ASSEMBLY. ok, i know at ste-therese assembly the factory training was done on vehicules that didnt pass final inspection but still!

The last Camaros were built at St. Therese... mais non? has this plant been retrofitted to Toyota assembly or something?

This recall is huge, and sad because it's such a simple part, by what is not a bad car company. However, this is their time to, how you say in English? suck eggs, and fall hard. They will recover, and hopefully will gain some humility. Btw, the biggest automotive recall of engines in history was by Mitsubishi...

An engine is a more complex device than an accelerator assembly.

That's biscuit/bisque/almond. Sold appliances for years. Looks like a 'chopped frigidaire to me. Maybe a GE. Mid-90's model, for sure.

Edit:

Just zoomed in on it. definitely an old GE. Probably one of the late 90's to 2000 models that got recalled for serious threat of fire.

Yep. same thing happens here. Sold $250 ingliss washers that were mechanically the same as $500 whirlpools.

stainless appliances aren't nearly as expensive as they were in years gone by!
like typical consumer household items, prices drop like a mafia victim to the bottom of a lake

They do indeed own 50% of NUMMI. However, this March NUMMI shuts down and all the work load is transferred up to our plant in Cambridge. Over the past couple months NUMMI has been a mess.

I might be buying one...we'll see.

It fits what I need in a car, sadly. It all depends on what kind of a deal I can get. I don't like the gas pedal thing, but they also were recalled for brakes last year, because the suction intake manifold for the brakes on the car can become locked in extremely cold weather, severely decreasing braking ability, aka, the brakes can fail horribly.

The one I'm looking at has already had that repair, I just hope they know about the gas pedal recall.

What they're saying and what I'm reading indicates that the problem is overblown and Toyota and GM are just taking precautions. The reports of it happening are rare, but they're afraid of a panic since there's so many Toyotas on the road.

...an accelerator assembly.

Has it been proven that it actually was the accelerator assembly? Last I knew they didn't really know...

call me one cold bastard, but I hope they find it is a bug in the firmware of the computer. Then the families of the people who have died can sue the hell out of Toyota.

Yeah, it'll still stop, just power braking ability is reduced. Like most recalls, it's generally blown a bit out of proportion.

I LOVE doing the recall though, as it pays .9 hours and I've got them down to about 5 minutes

A big issue with this is most Toyota owners wouldn't think enough to pop the car into neutral or turn the key off if the car was accelerating out of control. The one car was out of control for over 10 miles... like, come on! Why aren't people being educated on this crap when they learn how to drive? I've had several cars that have started accelerating on their own, and I've never smashed one up yet. It's easy... put it in neutral, and shut the damn engine off- bam, you're not dead.

But yeah, I'm not so sure the mats are an issue either, allegedly a couple of the runaway cars it happened to didn't have floor mats.

At least they don't have a new recall every week like err.... some manufacturers.

Toyota usually doesn't have many recalls, which is probably why it is such big news.

I think most drivers though aren't really sure what the little N means. I mentioned to a lady at work (Camry driver) that you can still stop without the car running. She looked at me like I was nuts.
