Has it been proven that it actually was the accelerator assembly? Last I knew they didn't really know...

call me one cold bastard, but I hope they find it is a bug in the firmware of the computer. Then the families of the people who have died can sue the hell out of Toyota.

Yes it has been confirmed that is the problem.

Why so malicious towards Toyota or any company for that matter? Seems to me that to wish that an overall successful company where tens of thousands of people are employed (and paid quite well i might add) is kind of sick. You may not like them or their cars, but to hope a company gets fucked...which basically means so will many employees.... pretty ignorant in my opinion

Toyota usually doesn't have many recalls, which is probably why it is such big news.

I think most drivers though aren't really sure what the little N means. I mentioned to a lady at work (Camry driver) that you can still stop without the car running. She looked at me like I was nuts.

it's like i have been saying... people are stupid.
a car will stop with the engine off, just stand on the brakes stupid.
i think you should have to take 1)a basic automotive anatomy course and 2)an emergency situations course (vehicle recovery, stuck throttle, stalled engine, etc)
Toyota owners, the majority of them, are people who are in most cases the ones you see at full service gas stations because they don't know how the gas pump works, or go to a car wash because the have no idea how to wash a car... the list goes on.

Well, Toyota has played their cars up to sweetness, sunshine and light on four wheels at the expense of other automakers. They deserve to be taken down a peg or two. Their cars are not any better than anything else, i don't give a fuck what the motoring weenies say. In my opinion, most of them are on the payroll of these import manufacturers anyway.
Fuck toyota.

there. does that make you feel better about yourself, Oddspot old chum?

Yep, the general public is pretty dumb when it comes to their car.

Just curious... side by side, head to head, a '98 Lumina is as good as a '98 Camry?

Most '98 Camrys still have rocker panels and don't have chronic head gasket/intake gasket issues. Just sayin'

Last I heard Ford was now being pulled into this mess because they use the same pedals in Europe. Our repair guys have this problem fixed in about 5 minutes. Also, only a limited amount of Toyotas actually have this problem happen. The part thats failing was made in Toronto, shipped to us, and installed by us. Next week we can take all the time off we like or come in and clean. So the talk around the plant is in two weeks we'll be asked to do the same thing. Our Lexus plant is still running like normal, around 350 per shift. Just some stuff from a guy that actually works in the plant.

the part was made by CTS - Toronto for your particular plant and the Woodstock plant (from what I've read)
The US plants manufacturing other Toyota's affected by the same problem utilize other suppliers for the part

"GM Acquires Toyota for 100 yen"

You mean "GM borrows 100 yen and acquires Toyota".

Samarui likes some Japanese cars but he really does not care for the attitude that some of manufacturers have.

Well the Tacoma is not even the good truck that Toyota makes for North America. The HiLux which is sold around the world is the famous truck.
