Anyone think this is a bad idea? Good Idea?

I'm swayed by two things:

1) I heard a senior Canadian Security official say that over 70% of mosques in Canada espouse "Jihadist" or extremist beliefs and/or support known terrorist organizations. Makes me wonder about any new mosques.

2) On Jon Stewart, they termed the debate as such: Just because you can build a mosque as ground zero doesn't mean you should. Similarly, just because you can build a catholic church next to a playground doesn't mean you should.

I giggled.

Anyone who wants to prevent it should get the fuck out of America.

Do Christian churches get blocked from being opened up a few blocks from bombed gay bars, abortion clinics, and United States Federal Government complexes in Oklahoma City?

Is it so hallowed that it will be one block from a tittie bar?

As much as I think it is a VERY shitty idea and in extremely poor taste and anything you can think of to throw at it as a description, the only thing worse would be our government stepping in and telling someone what they can and cannot do with their own land assuming it already meets all zoning laws codes etc....

I would agree inasmuch as I agree with Obama that freedom from religion is important. It also, as you yanks tend to forget often, also means freedom from religion.

But what about the practical side? While thier right to build a mosque there is enshrined in the constitution, should they? I mean apart from being just plain tastless, what good will it do for anyone? Will it invite more religious hatred and violence?

On a side note, a poll noted in several daily papers today suggests that 1 in 5 americans think Obama is a muslim. Awesome.

There's been a mosque/prayer center inside the pentagon for years and no one fussed about that......no one.

We're being taken for a ride by this story - it's a bogus issue that began with the NY Post. There was already a mosque 2 blocks from ground zero before talk of building the community center. Want to see how the story exploded? Watch Fox and Friends in the AM while you get ready for work - they are fucking SHRILL about this issue, it's all they talk about. A constant theme they hammer for however many hours they are on in the morning. Steve Doocy (pronounced "douchy"), Brian Kilmeade, and whatever vapid blond between them have been going fucking nuts over this story. Always a twist, always a spin - this morning they made a big deal about an orthodox Christian church that is having trouble being rebuilt - leaving the impression that it's ok to build mosques but there is a concerted effort to block christian churches. All mainstream media have been guilty of furthering this mess by using the misleading "ground zero mosque." It's not at ground zero, and it's not a mosque.

By the way I'm all for the gilded stripper pole - titty bars are American as fuck!

There is a huge fundamental difference here. Christian beliefs do not support starting holy wars with "non believers", Islamic beliefs do. America is full of these evil "non believers". The Islamic belief system is totally against what this country stands for. Hell, we have "in God we trust" on our fuckin money, not "in allah we trust". We aren't on the same team.

I find it funny; people give Christians a hard time CONSTANTLY, but when the "peaceful" muslims decide to build a fuckin mosque at a site where innocent people died because of the specific religious beliefs of that said mosque, people suddenly get stupid!

Terroists arent power hungry. They are islamic fundamentalists that have taken what allah has told them to do and ran with it. They want to die for allah so they can get their virgins in heaven (which of course doesnt make sense since sex/virgins are physical fleshly thing not associated with spirits, thats one reason why its bull shit). Dying for allah involves them killing the "unbelievers". "unbelievers"= non muslims, non muslims=americans, am I getting anywhere with ya here??? They hate christians even more. And since our currency (what basically defines us, especially by what is written on it), specifically says we trust in God (not allah), I think its pretty clear why they would want to fly planes into our buildings and build one of their damn temples in sight of that place.
