Same here. I found out how to get into NH State Hospital, and even though it is only 30 min away I just couldn't get myself out the door to go explore it at 8PM.

get your butt out and go exploring!

I prefer exploring with at least one other person though, I'm always hesitant about exploring someplace by myself, especially if I've never been there before. *hint hint*

I hear you there. I've been in some pretty sketchy places by myself. Even down in the bottom of the Belchertown Auditorium it gets pretty spooky.

It may be different for others (and I know it is for at least one person in particular ;)), but if I am with at least one other person, I am not spooked out by anything in an abandonment, now if I'm by myself I get spooked walking around inside the school I work at during the night!

I'm just so used to exploring on my own, I don't worry about other people coming with me, or waiting for them. Most places I explore, i go with someone once briefly, then when I feel safe i'm in and out of there on my own all the time

Lol. Well... you know what keeps me going in those dark spooky places? Thinking of my dad. He is DEATHLY afraid of the dark. I can remember there were some nights when i lived with them that my mother would ask him to take the garbage down to the end of the driveway for pickup the next day. They have a 1/8 of a mile long driveway. The blood would drain from his face, he'd mumble that he'd get it the next morning... anything to get out of it. Finally mom would yell at him to get up and take out the trash and he would. I can remember him walking slowly down the driveway with the floodlight at his back, then a few minutes later come hauling up the driveway at full speed, eyes wide lol.

Yah... funny stuff. When i think of that sort of thing i dont have too big an issue, but if while i'm down there and i hear shit moving around... BOOM! ZIP!... i'm out.

I have difficulty getting people to go with me on these explorations, so i've had to become accustomed to going alone. I bring 3 flashlights, my phone, and a 9" prybar with hammer end (just in case i have to bludgeon something to death...).

I'm typically more paranoid of the paranormal then actually running into someone that may try to injure/kill/rob me, although that is still pretty high on my list of fears in this hobby.

Just yesterday I was at work (elementary school, by myself, 6PM, lights all off with some light coming in from the windows), I went into the bathroom and I heard the sound of one of the ladders from the janitors closet next door being moved around, I swear it sounded just like someone had went in and picked up the ladder. I opened the door and the ladder was still on the rack, behind a closed and locked door with no one else around. That spooked me pretty good.

That sounds great, but only if we can sync with a few of the other folks around here, seems like there's interest in a trip out there, why not bring some compadres?

I do rather think it's getting to the point where we should get a gathering type thing going on! There are about two threads on it in the NE forum!

If it isn't life threatening / very difficult ... exploring alone is boring. I often need the challenge or group to get my ass in gear.

Sometimes getting novices or a large group into someplace easy for one or two is a fun challenge.

you should be careful bringing a prybar and hammer combo- besides for being completely unnecessary (unless you're into breaking and entering), it could easily be looked at by a cop as a burglar's tool or weapon, which could land you in serious trouble if you were to run into one of them..

Cops never check my boots, and i've used it for protection whilst in NYC.

Well... i got hurt in an NYC draining outing with a buddy. Guy came out of nowhere, fists swinging and i got thrown into the wall getting cut on some rusty metal in the process. Had to go through the whole tetanus shot routine.

Dunno why the guy wigged out. Some sort of crackhead i guess. We just had camera equipment with us. Tripods, portable lamp, etc. But after that i dont go exploring anywhere without something to at least give those types a second thought. I've never had to actually hit someone with it, but just holding it up is enough to make someone back down. Like i said, i used it in NYC whenwe went back, and i had it when i was locked in. If i didnt have the prybar with me i wouldnt have gotten out onto the fire escape.

I understand where you're coming from, Offlimits, but with the way it has come in handy i dont go without it.

So I'm still a bit new to this, but I made my second venture into BSS yesterday. This time I got to go further into campus than the Auditorium, but still missed out on a lot that I was hoping to see.

The best thing about being in the Gym under the BSS theater is that if you stand in the middle of the basketball court and just shut off your lights and listen, yo can actually hear the place rot.

The mutant twinkie didn't make for much of a picture after she stepped in it. That girl really needs to learn to look at the ground a little more when she's roaming around these places. She had to have stepped in at least three other things when you weren't around, but that was definitely the worst of them.
