I am free to check this place out whenever someone's heading there just let me know if you don't mind me tagging along, my brother lives in Chicopee so I am out that way once in a while. I drove by the old Monson State Hospital a few weeks ago, huge sign up probably a bad idea heading there looks like they're not screwing around anymore. Merry Christmas my fellow New Englanders!!

Hahaha yeah there'd be a lot things I wish I could like here on UER. Oh so last time I was at BSS (like 3 weeks ago) I was in that ugly modern building that doesn't fit in (I'm sure you know which one), and ironically like 20 mins after I was done in that building I was taking some pictures in the garages out back and as I was walking towards the auditorium and I looked over at the ugly building and sure enough some guy in a white pickup was sealing it up. lol one day that'll be my luck, getting stuck and sealed in.

G Building!

That's really interesting. But if you got sealed in G Building, you could just go up to the roof and inch your way down the side of the building haha.

EDIT: Typing fail.

Yeah, gotta be careful over there. Part of the campus was sold off supposedly, so they're keeping a close eye on everything. I would HATE to get sealed in !

Whaaat? I know some company wants to tear BSS apart and get rid of nearly all the buildings except for a couple and turn it into this big complex of mixed housing and business and whatnot. The last news article (I try and keep up with EVERY news article I can about BSS) was this from like not even two weeks ago

http://www.massliv..._school_poten.html

Oh and to anyone who actually reads that article, read the only comment on it. Whoever wrote that is 100% right.

It's just like Plymouth County Hospital, they have been trying to re-use or completely tear it down for low income housing, elderly housing, and even business's since the mid 1990's. And whenever a company buys it, they back out and the town buys it back, every time.

All i'm telling you, is what I know right now from my source, who gives me periodical updates (I don't read the articles on it). That's what I was told. What's going to actually happen, or not, is still TBD. I actually met the people who were going to buy it and turn it into the mixed retail, etc. (unless we're thinking of a different company) but the EDIC is asking 1.35 mill for the campus, which is WAY too much.

Whomever this other company is mentioned in the article, i'm not sure. What I know is a 15 acre portion of campus was sold off, supposedly to a co to develop an assisted living facility. It only deals with about a quarter of the campus ATM>

I've heard to many different things in the past few months about who wants to do what with it, but I do remember hearing from some guy I ran into there about a million and a half for the property. And yeah, that is too much, considering how much it's going to cost to get rid of all the contaminants in those buildings. I never want to see the place get demolished but when that day does come I really hope they re-use at least a few of the buildings. But anyways, I suppose only time will tell to see what's actually going on. Thanks for sharing that info, by the way!

There's actually a 10mill abatement grant from the state for whomever buys the campus. Unfortunately, the EDIC is shooting themselves in the foot by asking so much for it. *shrugs*

And you're welcome - BSS is my home, and I love it so, but some day i'd like to see something done with it.

I really can't see any company buying it for that much.. but yeah I love BSS as well.. so many good times exploring it not to mention the pictures I've gotten there. Maybe one day when it's gone we can all contribute and write a UE/historical book about it hahaha

I do agree though, the day will come when something HAS to be done with the campus. I don't want to see it rot so much that they can't re-use any of the currently abandoned buildings. That'd be such a shame

I hate to break it to ya, but at least 60% of the campus right now IS rotted away so much it's unusable, and the buildings are gonna have to come down. It's just kinda inevitable...

Oh I know, I've been in the majority of them. I have heard possibilities that they might re-use at least the admin building. They really should try to save at least one or two of the buildings. It's not impossible. I can dream right? haha.

IMHO, the bakery/cafeteria, admin, the bldg next to admin, infirmary (x shaped building), infirmary ward, the meatlocker/storeroom and the powerplant can be saved. the rest will need to go.

I haven't been into the kitchen but I do know which one that is and my friend said that ones not too bad. And the rest I do agree could definetly be saved. There is one of the cottages that I had never been in to until last month that was in really good condition but then again why keep a cottage?

Hi. I'd like to share an experience we had here just before Thanksgiving. We went into the theater and my group split up because a few wanted to go down to the basement but one girl that was with us was too scared so we stayed with her. If she had not been such a pussy we probably would have gone down there with the rest of our group and not heard the men in the white truck calling: "Anyone in there should come out now because we're about to seal this building!" They weren't too dickish on our way out. Only told us that they took down our license plate # and called the cops so we should leave asap. On our way out we saw a cop car pulling down the road where we had been parked. Guess it's time to find a new place to park for next time.
I love BSS. It's close to us and was also the place that got me into exploring. It would really suck if it got torn down. I wonder if the white truck guys are employed by the town or by the company that bought the place? Either way, they totally put a damper on our fun there that day. I really hope we don't run into them again.
Here's a couple photos I took there on our short visit that day. (Sorry they're tiny. I haven't had a chance to sit down and read how to properly size photos for posting on UER.)

Damn, how often do they seal that place up? Because when I came within a half hour of getting sealed in, that was on 11/30... But anyways I don't care how often they try to seal it up they always miss some and not to mention a few of the windows you can get in. I didn't even go into the auditorium that day, but did they put the door back on? because when I looked from afar it seemed like it was back up. Any who, I like those pictures, nice! its about 2 and a half to 3 hours away from me but I go up there whenever I can afford to fill my tank haha. I love it there. I change up where I park every time, luckily I have never had any trouble with police there, I only ever saw them once there and they weren't looking for me they were looking a group of drunk kids with baseball bats, and pellet guns.

here's a few of mine, dating between July and November of this year.. most are nothing special though I really like the wheelchair.

Yep, I recognized that awesome wheelchair pic! Let me know if you're heading this way. We live about a half hour from there so we're up for a visit anytime. I'm not sure how often they go around and seal but I think the local kids probably just come around and open it all back up again just as often as they seal it. Being next to a college town isn't such a bad thing.

hey, at least they warned you guys first and didn't seal you in ! Did you go in through the front door?

can't wait to see your photos, though

Also., whereabouts did you park? I'm curious.
