| | | I am sick to death of people with some kind of warped sense of entitlement. Just in the past two days, I've run into at least four. Two I already knew, two I had no idea of. The first, a bitch who went out on sickness and accident insurance two months ago with some kind of "heart condition" that was exacerbated by the heat where I work. She went out because she didn't want to work with the rest of us in the heat and shit. On top of that, she bitches and whines when she doesn't get a bid on a job she has no right to expect to get because she's been there for so short of a time. One job required a CDL, which she has, she got mad because she wasn't allowed to bid on it because it was a job that belonged to the other union at where Sam and I work and those other union members are allowed to bid on it before anyone else in the rest of the mill and someone from the other union bid and accepted it, so she was shit out of luck. Second, a dumb bitch that went out on insurance over a year ago and thinks that because it was a workmen's comp claim, a bogus claim for injuries that didn't happen how she said, that she is entitled to a job. Our contract clearly states if you are out on medical leave for over 1 year, you are dropped from the active payroll, which means you're done unless you want to file another application and start all over again. On top of this, the company's FMLA policy, which goes by federal law, says that you are not entitled to a job with the company if you have been out on FMLA for your own personal illness for longer than 26 weeks. So they were nice to her and gave her another six months to get her ass back to work. They cut her loose, fired her via registered mail a few weeks ago and now she's fighting it. Which is bullshit. The rules are the rules and that's it, I hope. I can't stand her anyway. The third and fourth are brand new hires who are related to two other employees in the mill who both believe that just because of that they can fuck off and not do their jobs. It's just driving me batshit to see people with less than a year believe that they can come into where I've busted my ass for the last seven years and own the fucking place when I had to put my time in. These assholes think that they can just walk in and be handed everything or that the company owes them something for coming to work. Grrrrrrrrr.

That... is a really incredible synopsis!

| | | Doesn't necessarily piss me off, but when people come to where I work and they start talking about religion and God (or even politics... I get that often). What possibly can I say besides agreeing with your (usually whacked) opinion that isn't going to start a real pissing contest?
Look, most religion isn't my scene. I have views and beliefs that work for me. I'm glad yours work for you, but now is neither time nor place, especially when I'm super busy with the phone going nuts and the doorbell ringing. And there's no way I can do much more beyond nod and smile without looking like an asshole and getting us stuck in a constant landing pattern of disagreement. As for politics, I'm not falling into that trap. Even if I agree with you. We're bound to disagree at some point and ... it's another thing like religion. It's gonna get long-winded. If we agree, we'll go forever. If we disagree, you're either going to try and convert me or insult me. I don't like either outcome.

| | | Kid gets stuck in a machine where I work...so bad the mechanics don't want to risk getting him out because they don't know the extent of the injuries and don't want to get into blood, and don't know how long it will take to take the bastard apart, so the local outside emergency squad is called for extrication equipment, they show up. Boss at said company says no, that they don't want to damage the machine and that they can't cut the kid out. He tells the mechanics to take apart said machine to get kid's hand out, which is bleeding, badly. Kid loses like three pints of blood and sits for an hour while the mechanics have to get him out and the emergency squad sits by watching with a cutting torch and the jaws of life. Add to the company would not let anyone near the kid other than two very shitty company EMT's who can't and won't do a damn thing but what the company wants which is to chase everybody who could help away because the company is trying to hide shit. On top of this, kid will get fired for committing an unsafe act and the company is mad that the local emergency squad was called out publicly, which can be heard on the scanner and other employees called the mill to find out what happened. Now, what the fuck is wrong with this fucking picture? The more I think about it, the angrier I get. What really frosts my ass is our union, or what's left of it, won't do anything to help him. He'll get fired, they'll file a grievance and once it hits stage 3 and is denied, they won't take it to the next logical step of arbitration because they're afraid of the company. I used to be able to do something to help, now I have to sit by helpless and unable to do anything. A dear friend tells me not to get so angry and to let it go, I can't let it go. Not when someone is hurting and there's something someone can do about it to make it a little better. It not only makes me angry, my heart breaks because this kid has little kids. I don't wish what happened to him or what will happen to him on my worst enemy. Which is why I got involved with the union in the first place, to stop shit like this from happening.
