Potty training and my sister, who refuses to make her 3 year old shit in a toilet.

While we're on the subject...does anybody have any ideas for making a 3 year old use the toilet? I've tried everything I can think of...from pull ups to hanes cotton underwear. He knows, he just refuses to do it. I had to go to the bank and the grocery store this morning, while he was waiting at the bank, he decides to shit his pants, then yell at the top of his lungs, "I pooped!"

This is no longer very fucking funny and huge reason why I don't have kids.

I really wish I had an answer but I couldn't help laughing at this post. That's really frustrating!

Hey, it's what my mom did and it made me use the toilet. Maybe it'll make her make him use it.

Now, my mom thinks it's cruel to put him in a tub of cold water when he does that. I can't understand why he's different from me or my sister...because we got the cold water treatment when we did it. I haven't shit my pants in 35 years.

Maybe refuse to babysit or take him out until your sister trains him?

sounds to me like he's made it into a game. it's like you said. he knows, he just won't. but the fact that he did it and screams it out just tells me like he really likes the attention he gets when he does something like that. I'd assume that this translates to other activities he does, maybe eating or playing. That he does things constantly, like putting food all over his face or something like that instead of just eating which he knows how to do. if so, i'd say it's about the attention and having had it become fun for him. I'd try to still clean him up obviously, but maybe don't make such a big deal out of it, and correct him when he does and say no poop goes in the toilet. you're a big boy now and you know poop goes in the toilet.

you could also improvise a reward system of some kind. something that won;t drive you insane. like if he likes a certain toy take it away after a certain time and say you won't get this back until you do a poop in the toilet.-neg. reinforcement- doesn't mean it's bad, it's just neg. bc you take away. or positive reinforcement by giving a treat like some cheerios or something when he does poop in the toilet, or a gold star and after 5 he gets a cookie.

it really sucks when you're obliterated bc you had a graduation party and get stuck on one idea, like some people have happen when they're trashed. decide that really does piss you off because you've been checking that place out for awhile, and make the wrong fucking move, post about it on a pissed off forum, then get ripped apart for making a post about being pissed off in a pissed off forum. This hurts my head! Make sense for once! Might be too hard for some on this site apparently.
