I use to put up with a lot, then I realized that where I worked I was "untouchable". So then I put up with none of it. Worked for 4 and a half years once I learned enough to make it harder to replace me than put up with me. That, made Walmart fun.

I looooove this. I am irreplaceable where I work. My coworker tries, literally, to get my personal days and vacations canceled just so he doesn't have to deal with some of the other douchebags and idiots that he'll get stuck with while I'm away. Nobody messes with me, people do what I say and what I need or want them to with no bitching or crying, even management asks me questions...which is damn sad, since they should know what I do already.
This is why when they offer to send you somewhere to train or learn a new skill, DO IT, ASAP. Learn every fucking thing they'll teach you, just so you can come back and do things nobody else can...and pick one or two close friends to show some of your new skills to, but whatever you do, DO NOT TEACH THEM EVERYTHING. Never, ever under any circumstances show them everything you know. You do...and there goes your ace in the hole and whatever you do, don't show management anything, they'll think you're a wizard and won't fuck with you ever again. Trust me on this one...it's why they leave me alone where I am, choosing lesser targets to fuck with.
The best thing I ever did was take the trip to Memphis two years ago...I do shit back here that they can't even figure out how to do down there. Which is, again, sad.
What's even crazier...
Management and corporate know who I am, my name even reached the vice president of our product lines, who I have never met in my life. Even the managers on the back end of the mill know who I am. All I did was take what I was given and expand on it by taking my downtime between orders that need to be wrapped and breaks at work to play with the computer system. Just taking numbers from shipping rolls and playing with them to see what I could and couldn't do. The biggest thing that no one knows...if you screw it up, it can always be fixed, and what makes you invaluable is knowing how to fix it.
