| | | Posted by Samurai i am off from work for four days due to... well due to... fuck it, i'm not telling you what's wrong with me, but anyways, the furor it raised is unreal. We're working short as is and with my departure, folks are going batshit.
| They can fucking deal. You can't work the way you are until that's gone or at least not causing such an issue. Also...you will need to be cleared by the mill doc before you can go back to work, so they may not see you again till FRIDAY, because you may not be able to see Dr. Hare until sometime Wednesday, as that is the only day he's at the mill. We did everything by the little blue book. (aka: by the contract and company policy) Fuck them, your ass is covered. Let them suck dick. One more thing...you haven't requested this ONCE in five years, I think it's time they let you be ill for once. That's the way I felt when I was out earlier this year for my ankle...they owed me a week of hanging around the house with an icepack on my ankle just to eat, sleep and play World of Warcraft. Since I worked overtime for the other assholes that abuse the Sickness and Accident insurance policy that IP pays for to be used in cases like this...not fucking abused the way a lot of people you and I both work with do and never get caught. The company we work for pays for a pretty generous policy that pays you a little over 400 dollars a week when you can't work for more than 3 days due to a medical reason. The policy pays for up to 6 months of time off. Provided you file a timely claim and provide adequate documentation. Most doctor's offices are familiar with this type policy and the federal FMLA forms that are also required. It's a pretty lenient policy, as long as you've seen a doctor and done what they ask of you, which isn't all that much. It just requires that you get notes from your doctor for the company nurse and have your doctor fill out some paperwork and provide some medical records. It's standard insurance paperwork and most of them are familiar with it. It seems like a lot when you first look at the packet, but it's really not all that much and most doctors can complete it in like 20 minutes.

| | | Some selfish, rude, bitch of a woman had the nerve to throw a hissy fit over my storage business being closed on Labor Day. "LABOR DAY! BUT THAT'S WHEN PEOPLE MOVE!" Listen, people move every day, stop thinking the world revolves around you. I can't help it that apparently "the only day my son's college will let him move into the dorms is on labor day!" #1 - I can't imagine this is true, and if it is, then it's one of the stupidest things I've ever heard, and people are stupid for putting up with it. #2 - If this actually is the case, be mad at the college, not me. I'm open 360 days of the year. If your son's college only allows him one day to move in his shit, they're the ones making things difficult, not me.
I live 2 miles away from work, if it snows so much that I can't leave my driveway in a vehicle, I SNOWSHOE. The only holidays we're closed are New Years Day, Christmas Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day. 5 days, 5 days out of the year. You'd think that would be plenty but I guess not. Typical American swine, "I need to get in that day so can you open up (just) FOR ME?" NO! GTFO!

| | | Being on overtime when all I want to do is play with my new computer and sleep. It's not my normal 6:20a to 6:20p either...it's literally 7a to 7p, following two mechanics around, hole watching and running for shit if they need it. The only good thing, it's in my normal working department. Usually they bus us out to other departments for this shit during a mill maintenance shutdown. By the time I get home, it's almost 8pm, I have to be in bed by 9:30 and be up at 4:30 so the two cats and I get fed, watered, and showered, then be on the road by 5:30, to be at work for 6:30 and in time for the shop meeting. What's even worse, I have to do this for 6 days this week and possibly six more next week, not sure until the schedule comes out Thursday. I may end up back on shift next week....I can only hope.

| | | I have one day off, tomorrow. After 6 days of 12's, I'm looking at up to 7 more. The only thing is, I get paid for 12 and a half at $19 an hour and every hour after 11am Thursday morning is time and a half. So, you end up racking up like 92 and a half hours at $19 an hour. I've learned to live on a 40 hour pay check...it's not that I mind the extra money, not at all, but I'm damned tired and all I want to do is sleep. There's no way to describe how fucking tired I am. You can't enjoy a $1000 paycheck if you're sleeping through it. Oh, I forgot one more thing...they're shipping me to another department with the guys that I worked with this week. Lucky me. I haven't been to the Power House in over 25 years. Since my step dad took me there when I was 11. So I have no idea where I'm going. On top of this, I have to go through some kind of training in order to be granted entry into that area. I just hope a Pandora sterling silver charm bracelet that I've had my eye on is worth it.

there's a knob at the back that turns and tightens or loosens the ratchet strap. Wear a do-rag or something on your head. I sweat so bad, I have to stuff paper towels in my hardhat to keep the sweat out of my eyes and off my glasses.
| Okay, then I need to go on a scavenger hunt for old handkerchiefs. What's even more fun...the guy I normally work with every day is pissed off because when we go to shutdown mode, the senior people that stay behind don't get any more than 14 or 15 dollars an hour and 40 hours a week for two weeks. So, he's scraping for any overtime he can get and bitching about it. On top of this...one of the two mechanics I was working with got hurt the other day...I happened to see the whole fucking thing. I'm not a union officer/steward in the union that he's in, but in the other union that represents the production workers of the plant. Anyway, the mechanic is looking at getting his ass busted for this, the second accident he's had in the past year. On top of this, management is acting like I and the other fella I was working with could have prevented what I believe was a mechanical failure in a piece of equipment. I spent 2 hours in an office with the guy I normally work with and management because of this shit. The company is afraid of getting sued, so they're hot on getting what they consider the correct story, even when we know their side of the story is completely wrong, blaming it on the person that got hurt. I've been on the phone off and on since last night with Bill over this, I don't know if there's anything that either of us can do, but I don't want to see someone hang for a mechanical failure that couldn't be prevented because no one made anyone else aware of it, if it was already known. Fucking company.
